According to Alexa.com, Facebook.com is one of the top 10 sites on the Web (currently its rank is 7), and it has some impressive statistics:

• The site’s growth is around 3% per week, which equates to 100,000 new users per day.
• 50% of registered users visit the site every day.
• The site attracts more traffic than eBay: 40 billion page views per month, which equates to an average of 50 pages per user, per day.

Well, Facebook.com built using PHP/MySQL environment. Also you will find wikipedia.org the popular free encyclopedia in the top 10 list, it is also developed using same environment.
